Sewing Inspiration: Shabby Apple

Even though I'd seen it mentioned around the blogosphere, I'd never visited online clothing retailer Shabby Apple. I thought it was just another "The Shabby/Lettered/Tattered/Old/Rustic Cottage/Nest/Home/Farmhouse Blog" or something.

I finally clicked on one of their ads the other day and was pleasantly surprised with their cute dresses. While most were out of my price range, I liked that they went up to my size-- as long as I were to order a dress that goes by their "Fits Generously" size chart.

Alas, it seems like they may be phasing out that size chart in favor of more petite sizing. So I guess I'll just have to stick with them for sewing inspiration... something I found plenty of on their site! In fact, there were quite a few dresses that I knew instantly the pattern I would use were I to make up a Shabby Apple inspired dress...

Project inspiration: wallpaper collage walls

I've been in luurrrrve with these wallpaper collage walls since I first spotted them on teh interwebz last year, probably on Design Sponge.

In fact, I'm pretty sure they're among the first things I pinned when I joined Pinterest "40 weeks ago".

I love the quilt-like look it achieves-- and that you don't have to pick just one wallpaper!

They're done using wallpaper sample books, and since you probably don't have to hang them as straight as using just one type of wallpaper, they're easier to hang, too.

While I don't think my husband or landlord would be down with me replicating them in our home, I've figured out how to achieve the look on a much smaller scale. Keep an eye out for that project.

Project inspiration: retro bread boxes

UPDATE: Here's the post with my DIY Retro Bread Box based on the following vintage bread bins.

I've been pining away for one of those vintage enamel bread boxes with the word "BREAD" emblazoned across them for a couple of years now.

It all started when I thought I would get into making my own sourdough bread, and I was looking for the best way to keep it once it'd been made. Metal bread boxes turned out to be the answer.

My sourdough starter died, but my desire to own a metal bread bin did not.

Too bad the kind I like mostly start in the 60 dollar range.

I've pinned a bunch on my kitchen Pinterest board, hoping to DIY one for much cheaper. I've come up with a decent solution, but before I show you the project, I wanted to share some of my inspiration...
